    bon,

a labrador retriever properly conditioned with "brim's" brand barbeque pork skins(only avalable in memphis and the mid south) and natural lite beer will never need to be force fetched.

Ok, do you guys ever reward a retrieve with a treat? Especially starting off. Or just obedience?

Many (maybe most) people do not do that, the retrieve is the reward.

On the other hand I have seen a "clicked retrieve" where a treat was part of the training technique.

I've done it with a couple of pups in the early stages of ball in the hall. The pups wanted to dance around in front of me just out of reach. I showed them the treat, kinda sorta drug them in on lead, treated, loved up and repeat. Do it a couple 3-4 times and stop that game for some more sit for treats and we're done with retrieving that day. Both were coming in all the way in the hallway in a week or two. You don't have to do this with most pups as there's but some just want to play around more than others and don't get that I'll throw the ball again when they give it to me.

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013

Pretty interesting the different thoughts on them. I guess one way is never the absolute.
