    Default Water Temp. Guage?

Does anyone recommend a specific water temperature guage? I've seen several types online but not much to choose from in any of the stores I've been in. I'm thinking something digital so I don't need my glasses to read it, vs. reading a mercury scale. It s@#s to get old! I checked the fishing stores like Gander Mtn. but they didn't have much. I was also thinking about going to the pool supply store to see what they have. Just wondering what everyone else is using?

I use the cheapest plastic thermometer I can find at Wall Mart. $1.19 for my last one I think. I did have to drill a hole in the plastic housing to attach the snap from a lead which weighs it down and provides the retrieval device when I throw it in a pond. It gives me the same numbers that my training partner's high dollar fly fishing thermometer does. Another training partner is a fisheries biologist. She has a fancy fancy one she measures the temp of the spawning gravels and lord knows what else with. Gives the same numbers as my Wall Mart white plastic and red alcohol Wall Mart special does.

I've lost or broken a couple over the years. I don't cry for the loss.

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013

Orvis makes a digital one and I thought Fishpond did as well, but am not sure. Here is a link to the one from Orvis: http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=73p7

    It is on sale!

I got a cheap pool/spa thermometer. It has a place to tie a rope so I can throw it in aways from shore, it floats and has big numbers that I can read.

Why do you need a temperature gauge? Just curious.

I'm with Howard. Cheap Walmart. Although I have a different one. It has a dial on the top and I just stick it in the water. Close enough.
