    Default Formal Training

Just started formal wrk with my 4 month old lab about 2wks ago. I try to do about 10-20 mins a day with her now. On lead she acts like a champ considering were only a few sessions in, but off lead she acts as if shes never heard the words heel or sit. Any advice?

Don't have her off lead yet when doing obedience. What I think you are doing now is training her to be disobedient. When you give a command that is not enforced you are teaching that the command does not have to be obeyed.

Spot on! It's tempting to test a pup before they're trained. Use your tools, and train the pup. Allow him some time to mature while forming sound habits. Maintain the tools that provide you with control with minimal pressure right now. Real formal training should begin around 6 months when Basics begin.

A check cord is your and your dog's best friend.
    Labrador Retriever, a 20g & grouse...is there a better combination?
