Upland training has no real "formula" for the number of birds used in the training of a solid hunt test dog. However from a practical standpoint when starting a project dog of my own easily i would budget minimally 100 pigeons per year to reach the Master level . That being about 8 pigeons per month on the average. In additon possible some pheasants at appropriate stages of training. Personally I not much of a fan of chukars for my own dogs and like quail do not feel they are appropriate for spaniels.
