All kinds of funny/weird stuff happens, usually if you have a good attitude the judges do a good job of being fair.

All kinds of funny sandwich stories....

    1. A very well respected member of this forum was judging Junior on a really miserable, cold, rainy day in Jan in TN. Dog carried the duck around behind the judging chairs, dropped the duck and picked up the judge's sandwich, and returned to heel...sandwich hanging from mouth.

    2. Dog was released for a bird that fell across a river. Dog swam across and then disappeared into the brush. The dog hunted briefly, we could see the bushes moving. Then all was quiet. Nothing. We waited and waited and waited and waited. Handler whistled and called, called and whistled. Finally the dog re-appeared and swam across the river with nothing. Later we were driving home and stopped at a Hardee's for supper. My partner's son was the birdboy. We asked him what had happened. Turns out he threw the bird and then sat down for his lunch. The dog came out of the water and pestered him for his sandwich. He tried to ignore the dog and wouldn't give the dog the sandwich. Finally, the dog gave up on the sandwich, forgot why he was there, and swam back.

Not a JH test but I was running, and trying to line dog up for blind. Looked down and he was peeing on my leg. Wanted to kick him, I just turned around to look at judges to see if I failed. He said as long it wasnt them it was fine. We passed the test.
A seasoned test Sent my dog on a water blind and she just swam in circles drinking the pond, give a back cast and starts swimming circles. I was marshalling and forgot to give her water all day, actually think I forgot I had my dogs in the crates. Failed

Enjoyed reading the stories but :: Remember this one folks, have seen this too many times. You're working a test/trial and think your dogs are good to go......We've all done it, remember to take your time.
May you pin all the marks and line the blinds!!

The first test I ever went to I witnessed a HUGE chessie get out of the back of an SUV on lead ,he seen a duck come out of a launcher and immiditelty put his owner on his stomach dragging him ...when it was his turn ,I think he no-goed.

I drove 7+ hours for a JH test to watch my duck dog swim circles around a very pour hit flyer...wasnt funny that day ,but I've learned to laugh about a little

was at a senior test in Minnesota and after Maggie had retrieved her marks I sat her behind a holding blind and a Canada goose flew in not 15 yards from the blind - I looked at the judges and asked if we could get it out of there and the judge asked me if I had a senior dog that knew casts and I replied well Yeah but that's a goose.

I sent her on the blind and she took the casts but after about 5 yds of swimming she started to loop to the goose and then I had to whistle and keep her on line - it took 4 casts but she did well with a very strong diversion bird.

not funny at the time I could have washed a car with the amount I was sweating that goose - damn Canadians

That's a tough situation but you are both better because of it!

I believe this was Missy's first Sr. test. A bird was launched about 30 yards across a pond. She went on a perfect line and picked up the bird. About the time she hit land on her way back, a live bird got away from a bird boy. Ran between Missy and the judge and Missy takes off after the live bird, dead bird still in mouth.
She jumped in the water and swam after the live bird. Caught the bird but then tried to get live bird in her mouth while holding dead bird also. Somehow she got it done, but the live bird moved a bit on the swim back and Missy lost the dead bird. She continues on to me, hands me the live bird, turns around and retrieves the dead bird and brings it to me. Judge says, "that's a pass, she brought it to you twice." Bout wet my pants.

I was standing in the gallery with my 5-year-old daughter once, when a pro friend of mine walked up on the line with a somewhat obese client dog and my daughter proclaimed in a loud voice: "Boy Daddy, look at that dog! Mr. Richard must be feeding him lunch too!"
