PARC1stDerby.jpgNot shown in the picture is the mound to the right from which the dogs ran. There was a channel making a right angle just to the right of the flyer station and lots of flooded land that provided lunging water en route to the memory bird. After retrieving the flyer, the dogs had to angle down the mound, angle thru the channel, run/lunge across the pasture, cross the channel at an angle again to the long memory bird which was thrown left to right in splash water in front of a tree. Most dogs that got the memory bird (1/3 of the dogs went out on this series) sucked to the clear area around the gunner and spent more or less time hunting drier ground on both sides of the gunner before eventually working over to the bird. The second series was run from the same mound, with two long land marks that required a mostly square crossing of the channel; 1/2 the remaining dogs went out on this second series. The judges had well placed birds that were difficult to get but they were generous in calling back dogs that actually found the birds. Both the derby and the qual were delayed in starting due to lingering fog and the judges and workers did a great job to finish both stakes.

Great weekend! no rain on Sat, just tough to set up test when everything is wet and the wind is from the North. We had great help and everyone work together to pull this off with it being so wet and not tearing up the grounds. Steve and I had a blast.
Dospatos nice job on the marshaling you kept thing moving.
    Marshall,
