Yup! had a springer following an accident during training! ,eventually had plates and pins and external fixator fitted!
Body kept fighting the foreign objects. She was a fighter!..but her internal fight and blood cells won the fight ,and she died.- the vet said ''it was something toxic"?
    My ass!..
(but that's just my personal experience)

I had a yellow lab that developed immune mediated thrombocytopenia about 8 years ago. The vet was able to manage his platelet count with prednisone and imnuran (sp?). We were at the vet weekly for a while to get the dosage right. After about 1 to 2 months we had the meds figured out. He was diagnosed at about 9 yrs old lived to be 12 1/2. The prednisone did take a toll but he did well. Scary for a while though. The goal was to suppress the immune system as little as possible while maintaining a good platelet count. I hope yours does well (sucks I know).

Yes, 8 year old Lab. My Vet said "thrombocytopenia" is kind of a catch all word when they really can't tell
for sure what the problem is. In my dogs case it was a blood cancer which I can't pronounce let alone spell.
Her cancer spread quickly.... though she managed to stay with us 4 months. I had to take her to OSU Stillwater
where they evidently had the big machines that could give us a final diagnosis.
    It is what it is....
