She can be recalled. The fact that she can be recalled allows the committee to get their ducks lined up in this contentious situation.

IRS Official Lois Lerner: 'I Have Not Done Anything Wrong'
10:21 AM, May 22, 2013 • By DANIEL HALPER
"I have not done anything wrong," she said. "I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations. And I have not provided false information to this or any other congressional committee."Lerner adds that she invoke her 5th Amendment right and "will not answer any of the questions or testify today":
You were saying?????

If one were innocent of any wrong doing, why wouldn't one answer the questions to clear ones self????

"If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor"
"I donít believe people should be able to own guns."
"I will not sign a healthcare reform plan that adds one dime to our deficits, either now or in the future."
"We've got to make sure that people who have more money help the people who have less money."
"Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go."
B. Hussein Obama
You are right on about Lerner making a mistake by giving an opening statement at the hearing when her intent was to plead the 5th. At the end of the hearing, Chairman Issa said the same thing... and he further stated that while she was dismissed today, she could be recalled to testify. After saying that, he said that the hearing was NOT adjourned, but that it was in recess. Which means it will continue.
