Default Lymphoma in a pregnant Lab

My good friend called today with devastating news about her female Lab. The female is due with pups July 15th. But the other day lab results came back positive for lymphoma. My friend will be taking the dog for further tests at Guelph Veterinary College Monday am. My question is has any one out there had experience with lymphoma and/with a pregnant dog? Thanks in advance.

Devastating is right. I am very sorry for your friend and her dog. That's just sad.

Has the pregnancy been confirmed with ultrasound? She would only be about 3 weeks along right now if I'm counting right...

I had a bitch that developed symptoms and was diagnosed with lymphoma about 2 weeks after she was bred. She was not, however, pregnant at her 30d exam; unfortunately she went down hill rather quickly after her diagnosis and did not respond well to treatment. I can't imagine that she would have been able to carry the litter to term if she had been pregnant.

No the pregnancy has not been confirmed by US. Hope that occurs Monday along with other information. I believe the vet today said she was in Stage 2 or 3. The lymph nodes are hard and large especially on her left side. They came up suddenly.

I'm so sorry... My bitch presented very similarly. It was like the lymph nodes came up overnight.

That's so very sad, my condolences to your friend.

A friend had very similar situation with a pregnant bitch, X-rays revealed multiple inoperable malignancies. She choose to wait out the pregnancy unless the dam became too uncomfortable. Puppies were delivered by C-section and the dam was euthanized on the table. It was heartbreaking but she left a lasting legacy.

Sassy's lymphoma was similar to all above, the glands pretty much appeared overnight, "knew" that's what it was before even doing the workup at the vet, but did it anyway. We lost her about a month later. The downhill for Sassy was almost as overnight as the appearance of the enlargement. Hopefully your friend will be as "lucky" as laurelwood's friend and she'll be able to carry to term if she is pregnant. Obviously a "natural" birth would be better if possible, but you gotta do what you gotta do (at that point, it's only about saving the puppies unfortunately).

Am I the only one who would have concerns about the health of the puppies, and about buying a puppy from a female who had early onset lymphoma?
I know nothing about it. It's just my knee-jerk reaction.

No I think you are justified in thinking that way. Yes we were talking today about all of the above. Saw first hand the lymph node enlargement. It is awful and hard to believe. Loads of questions. I hope when my friend and her husband head early for Guelph Monday they come back with many answers to their questions.
