Default The apology of IRS Dep Comm Faris Fink

I watched the entire hearing via live stream and paid close attention to the testimony of Deputy Comm. Faris Fink who played Spock in the Star Trek video. He was also one of the high ups that spent their Anaheim conference nights in the expensive presidential suites.

I really was blown away by Fink's attitude. He said he was sorry that so much money was spent. He said that making the Star Trek video was made to add humor. He thought it was a good idea at the time and that it broke no IRS rules.

While he was testifying, I felt he holds himself at a distance from the spending and the decision making. He said he was not involved in the planning. I don't believe it. He was a lead character in the Star Trek video so he knew all about it. When questioned further, he admitted that he knew before the conference was held that more than $4 million had been spent on it. But he stopped short of saying that he had approved the expenditures. He said he just knew about it.

In 2010 Fink was the Deputy Commissioner -- the #2 man at that IRS division. He can't speak of what was happening regarding the $4 million spent for the Anaheim conference as if "someone else" and not himself condoned or approved. Apparently now he is the #1 man of that IRS division.

Fink must be held accountable. One story on line says that Fink is on administrative leave. Paid leave.

Hopefully Fink and others will be on permanent leave status soon. I find it very troubling that people that exhibit behaviors and poor thinking can rise so high up the ladder to success in the workplace. Maybe after his guest appearance in the Star Trek fiasco he can pursue a career in acting, he has to be better at it than deputy Commissioner of the IRS. They will probably put their usual spin on the matter as stimulus spending to boost up the economy. So far this administration has been very successful in giving away money unfortunately it has been our money! No wonder they work so slowly with tax exempt status request, there will be no one to fund the party.

Did you hear the piece de resistance? The IRS can't find their receipts for the expenses! If ANY dept of govt should know about keeping receipts, it would be the IRS!

Makes me wonder about the receipts for other agencies ... do we have any clue exactly where all these agencies have spent their money! Our attention has only been focused on the very visible waste; one can only imagine how much more money is wasted DAILY.

The powers that be who put them in these "jobs" think that they have someone they can control etc. The trouble with that thinking is that somewhere along the line the whole thing unravels just like Helen from Cal. stated. Most politicians in this country seem to think there is no end of the money for them to "play with".
Most politicians need a good iron bit in their mouth so we can have some control over the run aways.

Will he have to apologize again for "forgetting" to lock down Lois Lerner's email access at the IRS?

Fink isn't in Lerner's chain of command. The person who should have done this is Werfel. In fact, the procedure for placing anyone on admin leave should involve a uniformed officer accompanying Lerner to clean out her desk while someone in IT cancels her computer access and someone in security invalidates her clearances and badge. IOW, when escorted out the door it should then be as though she hadn't been there.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has cancelled its purchase order for surveillance equipment, which had included coffee trays with hidden cameras and cameras that could be hidden in plants.
The IRS issued the cancellation on Wednesday at 11:49 a.m.
CNSNews.com published an initial story about the IRS's purchase order on Monday afternoon--and that story was linked on The Drudge Report.
As CNSNews.com reported, the IRS had issued a rush order for the surveillance equipment last Thursday, June 6. That order originally carried a deadline of Monday, June 10. Among the items the IRS sought to purchase were four coffee trays with hidden cameras, four cameras that could be concealed in plants, and two "concealed clock radios."
The original purchase order said that IRS already had an "Undisclosed Corporation" that could provide the items and that any would-be competitor would need to demonstrate that it, too, could furnish the type of equipment the IRS was seeking. The order said its descriptions of the items the IRS wanted to buy was "vague due to the use and nature of the items."
