I tested a stud (not one I own, but sire to one I own) for possible use with one of my girls, and he came back PRA carrier by Optigen. He is full field bred. I don't know if he has pionting or British dogs in his lineage. But there are many HRC and AKC field titles. I'm now wary that pretty much any line could carry it.

You definitely got show dog in there. Take a gander at your 5-generation pedigree, and look at the bottomside of the sire. You will see a dog out of waterbound kennels. This is a show kennel. Goes back to Dickendall.

Go to the OFA database and go backwards. Put in Waterbound. This is the dam of the Waterbound dog.

Then go to the Waterbound website, and you will see the "show"

    http://waterboundlabradors.com/id1.html

They even mention the Dickendall stuff.

You also have NFC Rascal in your pedigree. He was bred to show bitches because of his big handsome head. I don't know if that bitch was or not, but Marilyn Fender may remember. But you definitely have a show dog blend in your girl.

One of the Dickendall studs was the dog that threw PRA and he was bred a ton.

That's what I was told my a long-time conformation breeder. Sorry to see if it's no longer a sticky as it increased owner awareness that PRA is present in both field and conformation lines. A few years ago, I owned an FC-AFC sired all field breeding male that diagnosed with PRA at 5 years old after annual ACVO clear exams.

Thanks for the info everyone. I should have recognized Waterbound as show. But whithout the show titles showing up on the pedigree, never know by just looking at the pedigree. It's full of field titles and some untitled dogs.

I'd have liked to see the PRA thread stay a sticky, too...keeps it in the front of people's minds.
