My wife is from Little Rock. I have spent a good amount of time there. It is a nice town, close to great fly fishing and duck hunting. There are some places around town that I would stay away from because the crime rate is higher than the rest of the town, but I enjoy the time I spend there when I go. I wouldn't second guess moving and living there.

Call Jay Chessir. He is a Field Trialer, owns FC Sally on Paul Sletten's truck. He is in charge of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. Has a FB page. NICE guy. I am sure he would be happy to talk to your son. He is an avid outdoorsman.

I agree with Susan. Talk to Jay. He can tell you all about LR and he is a good guy.
"Force fetch isn't about retrieving as much as it is conditioning a dog to handle pressure, in a very controlled environment. It's about putting a dog in the position of having to figure out how to turn off pressure by finding the correct response. This translates into numerous areas in training." Sharon Potter.

If he likes to train dogs, he is about 30 minutes from one of the best dog water facilities around and it is growing. Peppers Pond at Mayflower AR is a dog trainers dream and is public and maintained by Arkansas Game and Fish along with good help from local dog clubs.

You make me want to move down there!

    What about snakes and gators?

gawd the cotton mouths are innumerable. it is best to stay out of the prarie and delta ares of the state until at least mid october. if you get within 50 miles of rice country you will perforated by mosquitos that stand flat footed and breed turkeys! summer is for fly fishing in the ozarks.

Snakes in the summer can be plentiful in parts of the state. Gators are more in south arkansas and some in the delta as well. Still not as numerous as our neighbors to the south and west.

This is the area Jeff referred to. Haven't seen a snake out there yet. Could be there but with so much activity I doubt they stick around. Gators not in this area.

Murder rate similar to DC, anyplace that spawned Bill Clinton and Jerry Jones can't be good

if southwest Little Rock would just incorporate into it's own town the rate would drop off dramatically for the rest of the city.

i moved to Benton (a suburb 25-30 mins west of LR) 2 years ago and its pretty great. centrally located to everything. 2 hours to best duck hunting. 2 hours to good trout fishing. 2 hours to the foothills of the Ozarks. 2 hours to casinos. 2 hours to the best tomatoes on the planet (thought they usually have them up here in farmer's markets)

best advice to give them would be to choose a community outside the city if they want to get small town (10-25,000 population) life but big city shopping close by. the good and the bad:

Benton and Bryant to the southwest have excellent schools; dry county (county line 4 miles away)
Conway to the northwest is a growing community with tons of new stuff; 2 colleges in town
Cabot to the north east bout like Benton and Bryant; commute down hwy 67 can be a hassle
