    Default Blood Trailing Retriever

This is just a little brag, but my retriever Tank had a great retrieve for his first deer of the year. We were trailing a gut shot deer and the dog and deer both ended up in the water.

Can't imagine how big of a freezer you need to keep one of those in there for FF!

I have thought about doing this with my dogs. Is it difficult? I'm worried it may interfere or be too much right now with the basics going on. I may work him on it in a year or two.

    Crawford, where do you live?

It is not a difficult thing to teach, especially if you have a dog that likes to hunt and has a good nose.

I wouldn't do it during basics or if you plan on competing in FT's or HT's. However, with a seasoned gundog it can come in handy. I've never trained one to trail but I've seen a few dogs do it, like I said it can come in handy.

Glad to see someone else who does this! I taught our first girl how to follow a blood trail and it has saved no less than 7 or 8 deer over the last 4 years. We even get a call occasionally from a buddy who needs help every now and then. Of course... I never do this within the state of Kansas, because... that would be illegal. Just sayin'.
