Default Vitamin B12 injections (GDG, sort of)

Does anyone else give their senior or geriatric dogs vitamin B12 injections?
The difference for my 16+ year old Golden is like flipping a switch. Her appetite, attitude, mental abilities all improve phenominally within 24 hours of the injection. In fact, it works so well I've gone to giving her the injections twice a week (with my vet's permission) instead of the usual once a week.
I used to give them to my other geriatric Golden, and the difference for him was also stunning.
Just wanted to mention it, as I think it is a grossly under-utilized tool in keeping our older dogs happy and healthy for as long as possible, and it might help others on RTF with older dogs.

Many dogs have low B12 levels, especially those with IBD, PLE or chronic motility issues. Dogs need B12 to absorb nutrients so if they don't have enough, much of the nutritional value of the food they eat is wasted. Because dogs can't make B12 they must get it from the food they eat.

The GI lab at TAMU does a maldigestion panel that will give actual levels. We have most of our IBD patients on it and have found that many of our geriatric patients appetites improve with weekly injections. Relatively inexpensive and no side effects that I am aware of.

Thanks Dawn. I only have a sample size of 2 to work from, but the results have been stunning with both dogs.
