    Default Junior Handler Test

I have been put in charge of my HRC clubs "Junior Handler Test."
WE really want this to be a memorable event for the young guns!

Share any ideas you may have to make it fun for theses kids please.

We were thinking of some kind of awards (ribbon or such), but maybe a picture of the moment as well.

    Again, any ideas??

    Thank yo!

Make sure that every participant gets a ribbon, trophy, etc. Photos are nice. Maybe give each kid a cheap duck call, the parents might not appreciate it BUT the kids will love it!

We give all of the kids ribbons...no matter what the dogs do. We try to give the dogs one land and one water retrieve depending on the dogs skill level. We also give out the duck calls that look like a duck bill..wackyquackers I think they are called?? Also their awards are called out first at the ceremony...that way everyone can celebrate their accomplishment.

Just for my edification, is a junior test an event for children as opposed to the HRC "started" test?

Years ago my daughter ran our now gone lab Hank in a DU Greenwing event. The thing the kids loved was that they all received ribbons and the raffle after the event with all the kids getting a small prize.

Yes, it is for "Junior Handlers."
I am not sure of the ages, I believe 12 and under.
We want to get them involved.
It's not really a "test" per se', but an event to get the kids excited about the dogs and the games.

I'll never forget a JH test at WATKC where a 11 year old ran his OWN dog that he trained himself.
Some things went wrong on the land, but the Judges let him run the water.
I will never forget that young man saying "here, here......"
And I will always remember when his dog gave him that last bird in the water series how he snatched it up, turned to the gallery and held the bird in the air!!

Truly one of my favorite memories of all!

It would be awesome to see 10 or 12 more of those!!

For just a game after the test I think it would be fun to have a short easy pile planted with bumpers with numbers on them that match numbers on random prizes. What ever bumper your dog picks up is the prize you get. You could always toss one of the numbered bumpers in the pile for the dogs just to mark the pile.
