My two middle dogs were raised around chickens and I have no problem with drive. Believe it or not they learn the difference between the yard and field. Now if they happen across a chicken in the field I may be in trouble.
They are smarter than you think.
I also raise game birds and they run right past the pens. Take them to the field to run upland and its game on.

Like said earlier this issue may be with grandma and what she does if pup messes with her pets.
The foundation to a great retriever is obedience.

If we raise him to be around the chickens and ducks are we going to ruin his drive and instincts?? Anyone have any experiences or advice to offer? Thanks!
Believe it or not....Your baby will be most interested in you. Your goal right now is to develop a powerful, meaningful, and most important your role in the pack for right now. The trust between both is soooooo important for now. I can't emphasis that how important that is and your future role in this pup......
