    Default Golden retriever

I am looking at getting a field bred golden retriever. Do they have a problem withs with drill work? Any advice on training them?

Depends on the breeding and depends upon the pup.
Daisy hated drill work but was not really taught correctly. I consider that one on me...
Amber has a much better attitude about drill work and ran her blinds hard and fast. She is now "semi-retired."
Valentino is just starting his drill work and so far has the best drill attitude of any golden I have been involved with.

Now for a shameless plug.... I will be breeding Amber for the last time to a currently running field trial dog and I am very much looking forward to seeing these kids in the field.

To follow up on Paul, worrying about drill work is pretty minor at this point. I'm a big fan of field bred Golden retrievers and for the most part believe that unlike Chessies, field bred Goldens train pretty similar to Labs, each dog is an individual. I have had one Golden who seemed to thrive on drill work, some that quickly got bored with it and most just tolerated it because it was training. As far as training; they seem to do well with the popular programs and react very similar to Labs. Try to find a good amateur group near you and maybe think about a good "young dog" Pro to help get off on the right start.
