If John Russell is shooting 32. One for the test dog and one for the by dog.

If I'm shooting........... Better plan on a lot closer to 40.

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013

Only one of the numbers I have seen here so far reflect the possibility of a flier for the water marks, and if the "Q" is on Friday starting the same time as the Open, none have contimplate the use of fresh shot game birds at the dead bird stations along with the flier in the 4th

So, if you are asking how many it would take to be in compliance with the AKC FT Rules, Regs and Guidlines, which appears to take these eventualities into consideration, it would be 2 per dog entered.....

You asked for it, you got it. Broken record time.

Since you got time to bust Fallon's chops, any chance you can respond to the question on the intimidation thread?

What part of "I am not interested in re-living that debate" do you not understand?

If it is that important why don't you root around in the archives from say - 8 years ago.

It all depends on how you are going to start the dead bird stations.

With 30 dogs starting, you will need a minimum of 32 flyers to start and run every dog plus test dog and bye dog. Let's say you want to shoot a few flyers to get it up and running, so you need to add 4-6 more (lets use 6 for example and will put 3 birds at the other two stations).

That means you are sitting at 38.

Then, you want to have some on hand for the 4th series. Although not every Q judge will want to shoot a flyer in the final series, many do, so you need to have enough for this option.

If you have 12 dogs in the final series, you will need 1 for test dog for total of 13. Let's round up to 15 just in case your judges are generous in their callbacks. You could round down to 10, if they are not.

So that means that you need 38 to start, and 15 to finish giving you a total of 52, and that does not account for any no-birds that may occur.

Not exactly the 2 per dog required, but much more than the normal 1.5 per dog guestimate that would be used for a normal full trial. If you are only running a Q, you may want to go with the 60, just to be safe.

If you are running this Q with the help of a hunt test, then the numbers can be reduced to the 1.5 guestimate as you will have enough from hunt test overage to cover any shortfalls.

    I hope this helps

While you do have a valid question, more to the point here, I'm wondering why he doesn't just post up on topic instead of GDG on THIS thread ???

So Ted in answer to the OP... how many birds is it necessary to have on hand at an AKC FT minor stake; available for the judges to use at their discretion.
