Default Scratchin' our heads and a little freaked out

Our dogs usually don't say a word but for about a week have been barking a lot at night. Finally early yesterday morning we saw a skunk not too far from the runs. This afternoon as we were airing out we noticed the skunk dead in the yard. When I went to check it out it's head was completely gone. What the heck did that??? We're completely fenced with hog wire all the way around so the size of intruder should be limited. We have a cat that's an agressive hunter and get a lot of strays across the property. There was no scent so the skunk hadn't sprayed when it was attacked. The dogs are always confined so they couldn't have done it. We have some big groundhogs around but I wouldn't think they're the killers. Any ideas what's lurking on our property?

Were u home all the time to hear a gunshot? Sounds like a large Caliber gun did the damage and small critters carried off the small stuff.

Great Horned owls kill lots of skunks.

Hawks are known to take just the heads of their victims.

Ditto on the Great Horned Owls. They are one of the few predators that kill skunks and they often behead their prey. It cuts down on the weight, but the skunk might still have been too heavy for it to carry. GH Owls only weigh 2-4 lbs. Some skunks get kind of fat.

We usually have a pair of GHOs nesting in the yard. We (or the dogs) often find bunny heads or headless bunny bodies. Makes the dogs very happy.

Well... aliens usually prefer the cow-mutilation thing, but maybe they're branching out into smaller mammals. That would explain why the dogs are freaking out.

The silver ones command more money from uneducated buyers, but some think they are part Wampus Cat. While Wampus Cats are silver, Chupacabra's never were until suddenly silver became fashionable and there was money to be made. Every silver chupacabra I've ever seen has had the ears and build of a wampus cat.
