I have a 1.8 year old yellow male. He has his junior title and working on Senior. Good breeding with all health clearance. My problem is my dogs barked off and on all night. They never do that. I can see kennels. I had to yell at them to quit numerous times. When I went out at 6 am this morning my male was "out of it". He just stood there. He wouldn't sit come anything. He is a food maniac and acted like he didn't know where his food dish was. I had to show it to him and then he ate. He usually plays with the other dogs but not today. He acted like he didn't know there were dogs in the yard. He just stayed right next to me and licking my glove. When I said no he just sat down and sat there. He wouldn't move. I had to coax him around. He didn't know what kennel meant even though he normally dashes for his kennel because he gets part of a milk bone when he goes into the kennel. When I finally got him into the kennel I tossed a milk bone in there and he didn't even react. I tried to throw bumpers for him and it's as if he didn't even see them thrown. I usually can't keep him from retrieving. Any help would be much appreciated. Just yesterday evening he was absolutely fine.

Called Vet. He will see him in the morning but he said it sounds like something neurologic. I just had him out again and he was eating snow and then rocks non-stop. He's never done that before. He is acting really weird. Like there is something in his brain that is disconnected.

Oh boy..that sounds scary. If they think its neuro, see if you can have a specialist see himASAP and eval.I had similar occurance with a dog a few years ago, we went to UC Davis. They did a full neuro exam , then an MRI and Spinal Tap. She did have a progressive brain disease.
I wish you the best with your boy, and please keep in touch..

Man!! Sorry to hear this!! Will be praying for you and your dog!! To some, praying for an animal sounds crazy, but as much as we love our dogs I feel that prayer is often times warranted and needed!
Not around here. I do hope the very best for your dog, sounds like a frightening illness. Good luck to you.

Thats what we started with on Jesse, but the lab work came back normal. Only way we diagnosed her ,was with a neuro exam , MRI and Spinal tap at UC Davis...
there was a name for what she had and I will look it up. PM or email me( watrspk@clearwire.net
if you would like more info. Im sorry to say that whats going on with your dog is carbon copy of what went on with Jesse. She was 2 and a half when it started.

Billie,

Let me know what you found out. I tried to send you a PM but it said I needed to have 10 posts to send one. He was better this morning but still not 100%. He went right to his food bowl this morning but he tried to eat feces as I was scooping it this morning which he never does. As I tried to put one of my females into her kennel he ran into her kennel, which he knows not to do then when I tried to call him out he paid no attention to me and just wondered around in there and acted like he didn't hear me talking to him. If you want to keep it private my email is kshelton.huronlaw@midconetwork.com

Brought him home Sat. with some facial twitching and a little unsteady on his feet. Still didn't know where his food bowl was. Didn't really listen very good. Sunday he was better and actually would retrieve dummies but as I was scooping feces in the airing yard he was trying to eat it out of the shovel. Just not quite right. This morning he came out of his kennel and went right to his food bowl in the shop, ran around playing with the other dogs. Basically looked and acted 100%. So this is really strange. Maybe a severe seizure? He has had one (that I know of) other smaller seizure about 3 months ago.
