    Default Lit a fire..

1 year old pup doing pretty well with beginnings of casting work. Although seemed a little bored and less than enthusiastic. So decided to give my old 'bird guy' a visit today to get a few pigeons. After a very long visit, which now I realize how much he enjoyed, we went to the bird cage to select my birds.

At 84yrs old this all took a while. I was getting eager to go train but the conversation continued. Obviously he was enjoying our company so I put my own 'agenda' on hold. After picking just the right birds we got back to the truck and as I tried to pay for the birds, Bill says "just your company and conversation are payment enough. I have so many guys come to try and buy birds, but never have time to visit with me. I don't sell birds to them either. You come back anytime for a visit and the birds are on me"

As I was driving home, I got a call from his wife thanking me for 'lighting a fire' in Bill. She said all he could talk about was how much he enjoyed our talk.

Those birds 'light a fire' in the pup too!!

Awesome DeWayne! Talking to seniors is something that I cherish more and more every day! Our seniors have so much to offer us and often have lots of wisdom and stories to share.
Reminds me that I need to take the time and to call and catch up with some back home.

I am in my forties and many of the men are not around anymore that I looked up to growing up.

    Thank you for sharing...Duane

Pretty good story. I always get a kick out of old folks and kids and haven't much time for anyone else.
