    Default Puppy accidentally uthenized..

I was talking to a good friend of mine in Thunder Bay, and her cousin works with this fellow who has a 6 month old Golden Retriever. He brought it into the vet to have him neutered, and left to go home. Mean time, an older gentleman had brought his older Golden retriever in to be Uthenized. I guess a little while later, when the young lad calls to check up on his puppy, he was told there had been a little error and his pup was "accidentally" uthenized, BUT....here is what else he was told....THat thre wouldn't be charged for the procedure. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? I am not sure what has happened because of this, as my friend hasn't spoken to her cousin since Christmas when this happened. It sounded like he wasn't sure what he could do about it, but I think he is going asking the Vet to buy another dog AND pay for the health expenses until the puppy is neutered when its old enough,.. or it would go to the news papers. My friend works at a legal firm in the city, and she said if he was to scared to do something, she was going to take him by the hand and show him the way.

I can't imagine the vets office calling me and saying "OOPS". How could you not see the difference between an older dog and a bouncy puppy.

wow....I told her I was going to share that story..

Crazy for sure!!!! For one, I'd not neuter a retriever pup that young (though amazing how many still do, even after reading the Zink articles about structural and health issues). But it surely sounds laxidazical (darn where is spell check when you need it?) on the part of the vet! I know my vet would NOT euth a young animal, hell, I was even questioned by the new receptionist when calling on my 13.5 yo last year who informed me a "doctor will need to examine Winnie, to be sure that is the best decision". (!) Of course, my vet knew but the receptionist was new and so you have to love them for that.

So sad if this is true though. Anne

yeah, that's really strange... if someone looks down at a happy, healthy puppy...

HOWEVER, Joie relayed many sad stories about people bringing in dogs to euthanize for no other reason than that they were either too much trouble or no longer wanted. So it's really sad...

I'm sorry for the owner of the pup in the story.

I'm not sure how it is in other states, but here in WI, when I went in to have my girl put down, they made me sign a release first...that I owned the dog and I give permission for them to euthanize....this was a minute before the procedure....I couldn't read it at the time with my eyes all welled up with tears...I just signed as fast as I could to get it over with....anyway, this seems like a procedure they use so a mistake doesn't happen like the one described.
