Default Where do you keep your dog during the day?

I keep my dog in a large fence behind my house. I have a shop I'm thinking about building a kennel inside. What would be a suitable size for say 8 hrs during the day while I'm at work. Makes me nervious to leave him so long in the yard while I'm gone.

My two have the run of the house. Never had a problem. Too many dog thefts happening.

Huge back yard with giant shade trees. The also have access to the laundry room (via a dog door) with dog beds and water.
