I haven't perfected and smoothed out all the problems I created early on. However, 6 weeks spent with some pro's who pounded me on my bad habits has helped me and the dog perform as a team.

For example: In a brain dead moment in the last series... a walk-up where they threw the bird from behind you to about 10 yards to your left into the water (big PLOP), I walked her toward the first holding blind at a particularly bad moment... where she got a panoramic view of the breaking bird. Duh. Consequently, she was thrilled and delighted, and excited and happy, just about darn near orgasmic, actually. Naturally, when we were in the final holding blind taking off our lead, she was beating the blind canvas to death with her tail. As we walked forward, "shot-gun" in hand, she was bouncing up and down almost yelling C'MON-C'MON-THROW-IT-HURRY-HURRY-THROW-IT-THROW-IT-C'MON!!!

It wasn't pretty. It was more of a foot race than a walk up. But when the bird went off, I knew she would SIT when I told her to. I knew she would mark the additional birds. And she did. And she nailed them. Not the highest scores in the world for trainability. Not yet. Maybe not ever. But we ARE becoming a team. (Also I painted one fingernail sparkly green and wore a green shirt for the final two series on Saint Patrick's day. It might have helped a little.)
