    Default Somewhat stupid question....

I've noticed people make mention of English vs. British Labs....What is the difference? Also, both my pups parents came from Ireland, so what does that make him??
Am I wrong in assuming there are three different "varieties" of Labs from across the pond, English, British, and Irish?

    The Irish ones are crazy
    The English ones are snobby
And the British ones just wish they were Scottish. Ask Polmaise and he will varify
The way I look at it, every dog is an opportunity to be a better trainer, and every day is a new day to be a better trainer to the same dog we trained yesterday.

Makes perfect sense to me....my 4 month old "red headed Irishman" is pretty much out of his mind.

    griffgil,

Here's my take on the use of those terms. An "English" Lab refers to an "English style" conformation bred Lab. A "British" Lab refers to a British field bred Lab. Ireland is part of Great Britain, so an "Irish" Lab is just a British field Lab who happens to be from Ireland.

Some may disagree, but that's my take.

The way the terms are used and the actual definitions are different.

A British or English Lab is from British/English parents/bloodlines. An American Lab is from US parentage.

People use the term British or English to describe a conformation type Labrador--shorter, thicker body, broader head. People use the term American Lab to describe the body type of a lankier, lighter-boned dog.

There is only one breed of Labrador, but varying body types.

An Irish Lab is a British Lab with a drinking problem.

Y'all haven't even mentioned the scottish lab. They're snobbish about their whisky and bark "FREEDOM" with a brogue accent.
