Wow. Just wow. This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for but can never find out about till it’s done and gone. Huge congrats to the Hillman’s and Mary Tatum. What a phenomenal dog this must be.

I need to reveal a brief "interlude" of training from a few years ago. My Hillmann mentor, Jim Wegner
invited me to drive over to train with him. Upon arriving, I quickly found out that Bill Hillmann was
visiting to work out some logistics on a training video. As it turns out two other trainers plus me
received a "special" tutoring lesson from Mr. Hillmann after watching us do a short session with
    our dogs.

During the discussion he briefly mentioned the significance of being competitive. I remarked that as I
got older, I no longer was all that driven to be competitive.

Well, he quickly moved quite forward from his lawn chair and said...
very forcefully, Well, I train to win!

I still smile a bit when remembering that. Yes, he does!

Not sure if that’s a giant leap, a sycophantic cheer or both but the 1st and 2nd places were about 21 months old and Clooney litter mates. The fact that the Shadow pup was 13 months old is driving factor of this thread. These days it’s not enough to be a great market, to be successful in the Derby requires a lot of training on different and difficult concepts and I wouldn’t count that team out just yet and the fact that he was 3rd shows he could have been extremely close. Still be fun to follow. Also glad to see Clooney pups being successful. I know Rita follows all her progeny closely.

Big Congrats to Bill and Shadow! What a testament to his training program (and ability), as well as Dr. Tatum's breeding program. If you'll immerse yourself in the ideals and methodology of Bill's program, there really is no equal available to those looking to train their own dog to a high level. It's not just the methods but the mindset that the philosophy cultivates. Good stuff!

Congrats Bill. Your methods really hit home with me. Crazy to retrieve...the basis for success.

As of this weekend's latest win, At 15 months, Shadow Junior is up to 38 derby points, including 6 wins. (1 Second, 2 Thirds, 1 Fourth)

Hard work pays off. Congratulations, Chris
