The 13th Annual Greater Minnesota Hunt Test Association Minnesota Retriever Championships will be held Saturday, September 14 on the grounds of the Kettle River Retriever Group near Hinckley, Minnesota. This is an owner/handler event for dogs in the Junior, Senior and Master level. This event is not a licensed or sanctioned test through any specific venue such as AKC, HRC or NAHRA. It is an informal event to put a bookend on our Minnesota Hunt Test season. Junior and Senior dogs will run a minimum of two series that will test dogs and handlers in commonly accepted hunt test scenarios. Master level dogs will run a minimum of three series. The tests will include marks and blinds, but will not include sit to flush, trailing or quartering tests. At the conclusion of testing the judges will place the dogs; 1st through 4th in the Master level and 1st through 3rd in the Junior and Senior level. Rosettes and prizes will be awarded to the place winners as well as the Gordon Schlichting Memorial Minnesota Master Traveling Trophy to the winner of the Master level.

The event will be open for entry no later than Friday, August 16. The event is limited to the first 20 master dogs and the first 15 junior and senior dogs on Entry Express. Simply do a search in Minnesota for “all events” and you will find the event under “GMHTA 2019 Retriever Championships.”

We will also be holding our annual raffle at the event. Already we have collected several prizes from Avery Sport Dog, Purina, Danny Farmer and Rick Stawski. Proceeds from the raffle go to further the initiatives of the GMHTA such as Youth Training and Handling Seminars or special judges’ education events.

At the conclusion of the day we will announce the winners of the individual stakes and the raffle and everyone is welcome to join together for supper. Bring your own item to toss on the grill and a dish to share.
