Dave, you can also look at interest rates in the same manor. Around 2012, the FED discount rate was .04%! That is the rate that determines the prime rate of banks AND ALSO AFFECTS INTEREST PAID ON TREAAURY NOTES(US DEBT). Now if you double that rate, which is a 100% increase, the rate would be .O8% and if you tripled the rate, it would be .12% and that would be an interest increase of 300%!! I did look up today's discount rate which is about .8-.85% and will let someone else figure the percent growth in the interest rate.

A company needing the services of a cpa firm asked for proposals. Three firms responded.

The first firm made a nice presentation and asked if the business owner had any questions. The business owner said, "I have one. What is the sum of 2 + 2?" The managing partner of the firm smiled confidently and replied, "4, of course."

The second firm's proposal was well done. Upon completion, the single question was the same. "What is the sum of 2 + 2?" The partner considered this a simple request and responded, "4, obviously!"

The third outfit put up a quality display for evaluation and at its conclusion the question from the president and ceo was the same. "What is the answer to 2 + 2?" This managing partner however sat for a brief moment in consideration. He then excused his staff from the conference room and suggested the ceo do likewise. As the room cleared the old cpa walked to the window and pulled the blinds, then returned to his chair at the conference table. He leaned forward, looked the potential client in the eye and with one eyebrow slightly raised said quietly, "Interesting question, what did you have in mind?"
