Mark, I tried several methods of lettering on a test piece of oak. I tried wood burning, branding, small router mortis bits and other dremmel thingies. None gave me the appearance of my friends CNC quality gate sign/logo.
I ended up taking it to a local friend who owns a sporting goods/trophy store(When the store owner's son was in high school I made a duck hunter out of him on trips everywhere, he is now a warden in Michigan)
I only had one "trunk piece" available after the duck call so I couldn't afford a catastrophe. I was obviously going for a primitive look(unlike Gooseer's high finish work) but I am pleased it is the same lettering and font as the gate sign and I'm glad i didn't catch anything on fire with a torch and branding iron.
