Default Field trial experience in this environment

First of all, Tall Pines wants to thank everyone that participated, helped or cheered from a far for our field trial. It went better than we could have ever asked for. I know many clubs are trying to decide how to handle future trials. I would be glad to discuss what I have learned from our trial with any other club. Feel free to call me. If you don't have my number PM me and I will call you.

Bubba could you expound a little, I think everyone would like to hear how things went. There is a lot of angst about what to expect as we try to start back to running trials again in our new normal.

I wish someone could provide an assessment of what worked and what would or could improve things.

    What worked:
Written guidelines emailed and handed out to everyone.
Speech before each day on guidelines
Having someone willing to get on people getting too close
Taking everyone’s temperature and logging it when they come in the gate
Separate bird racks for each bird, so the same birds go back to same throwers
Handlers showing birds to the judges to inspect and hanging them themselves. Judges only have to inspect, not touch.
Spray sanitizer at each station and line. Spray almost everything down.
    Housing judges in private residence
Disposable gloves and masks available. Handlers required to wear gloves.
    Parking 10 yards apart
A ton of other things in guidance

    What didn’t work:
Having the line in the son with only one shade tree. Handlers crept worse than dogs to the shade. Had to separate them several times.

That’s all I’m typing. Anymore, I welcome a phone call.

I can see sun shade tents becoming a very popular (more popular) item .... It is convenient to 'share a tent' and certainly I have shared the 'shade' with others, either under their tent, or mine --- but no way can you keep the 6' distance if you are sharing shade/space like that. Actually when you think about it, tents could be a good way to help keep people distanced.
The way I look at it, every dog is an opportunity to be a better trainer, and every day is a new day to be a better trainer to the same dog we trained yesterday.

Boy oh boy. I just got the instructions from my hunt test club for what is hoped to be our test at the end of June. Oi vey. Part of me just thinks it may be more fun to train the relevant setups with my friends. The club executive are working liking fools to make it happen, and I am thankful for their hard work, but I wonder how much fun it will end up being if you can't kibitz back and forth with the boys and have a pig roast and such.

This whole damn thing is just hard.

    BTW, we are in Canada.

I'd like to know how many gloves and gallons of hand sanitizer you used, and how you managed to find enough. Buying all that seems expensive.

Other fear is consequences of pro with lots of entries getting sick, has to withdraw 20 dogs...maybe you end up with too few to even hold the trial.

How does it work for the handler to show and hang their own birds. Do they have to make the dog wait between retrieving each mark while they deal with birds? Or is there a bucket they can drop them into? Or birds still alive? I’m having trouble visualizing the steps.
