    Default Thunder 500 Launchers

What have been your experiences using the Thunder 500 for training?

Is it a valuable training tool?

    Is it a reliable product?

I have two and my training partner has one. It allows multiple gun set ups when you are short of bodies.

The down side is that you are limited to the distance they can be used effectively. That is, after 150 yards or so, the bumper is half way through it's arc before the sound (bang) returns to the line, sometimes making it difficult for the dog to properly mark the fall. The further away you place the units the more this becomes an issue.

The area of fall can vary a lot depending on wind etc. and because the bumpers are very light weight, so if the AOF is particularly critical, then you are much better off to have a human thrower for the sake of accuracy and consistency.

I've had my units for two years and are used about 200 days per year. We run between 6 and 10 dogs on training days. They are the most relieable and trouble free tool I've owned. If you keep the electronics charged and the batteries fresh and take reasonable care not to bang them around too much in tranisit then you will be very satisfied.
If I/we/you can't continue to advance our methods that focus on making training easier to learn/less painful for the dogs, we have no right to be training them. (Alec Sparks)

I threw birds for a pro in my area for experience training my dog.he has one but we used it for the noise and threw birds.very dependable, way easier to use then a starter pistol, and a tank of gas lasted forever. We probably shot it 50-60 times a day / 5 days a week. But never used a bumper.I always thought it would be good to plant water blinds with in areas only accessible by boat.
