my 9 month old CLM NEVER seems to get full, I feed him twice a day (1 1/2 cup each time) but he always acts like he's starving. And this is running into problems with my wifes Husky female that is kenneled with him and I feed them at separate places, one in the shed kennel and one outside in the big kennel but the husky is a slow eater and the lab I don't think even chews or tastes it so he quick finishes his and goes and tries to steal hers to. I try to stand and watch most times but sometimes I don't have time. He is not skinny at all and is full of energy so he is not malnourished but I just don't know what to do anymore. Feed him more, let him gorge on a whole lot if food, any ideas?

What kind of food recommends 1 cup a day for a 9 month old lab? My girl is 9 months and we feed 4 cups a day.

my BLM is now 13 months, very high energy.
At 9 months was eating 2 cups - 3 times per day.
Now he is eating 5 cups over 2 feedings.
Just at vet, and perfect weight.

He would leave home if I only fed him 1/2 twice a day. ;)

1 CUP A DAY?! Youre kidding right? He never seems to get full because 1 cup would not fill him up! 4 cups is normal- if you can feel(without digging) but not see ribs hes right on. 1 cup a day isnt enough...

Look on the side of the bag. It gives recommendations as to amount based on weight which is a place to start. Then adjust based on his looks. My guide: I look at the dog straight on and expect to see no ribs but if he bends at the waist I expect to see some ribs on the convex side.

I like the others don't think one cup per day is sufficient.

Actually yes last month we went to the vet 2 times and checked everything because we thought he had some internal issues and came back with a clean bill of health. :)

Every lab I've ever owned was this way....they all will eat themselves into obesity if I let them.

I don't think 1 1/2 cups two times a day is bad at all. If he is maintaining his weight than good. It sounds like you have a dog who wants to eat anything in sight....I think it's normal.

My boxer I could leave a whole bag of food out and he would only eat what he needs but the labs would eat until they throw up and then try and eat the throw up and then go outside and try to eat poop.

I don't get it but it's just the way every lab I've owned has been.

Yikees! Feed that poor pup!
! cup a day... no wonder he is hungry.
at 9 months my pups will eat anywhere from 3-5 cups of food a day depending on the dog.
Have you had your dog in to the vet for weight checks or check ups?
Can you see and feel ribs or hip bones?
Does he get other treats or people food?

yep you have a lab, my neighbors took mine on afternoon when it was a pup to their house and kept it in the garage with an open bag of dog food. When i got home it looked like he swallowed a basketball...needless to say i was not happy with the neighbors. "we thought he would stop when he was full..."

No he's not skinny at all he's perfect size. 75lbs already! But he does NOT and I emphasize the NOT get people food ever or dog treats. We train with ordinary dog food. But here's another question, he chews up anything I give him. Not good since he chewed the cord off his heated water bucket 4 times this winter and the actually bucket and the kiddy pool I put in there for the summer months) he has plenty of bones but that stuff isn't as fun I guess lol.
