We've found if we keep our club full of losers we can keep the costs down...

Jerry, I am not 100% sure on this, our club secretary could tell us for sure. I think we spend 50-75 for judges gifts. (akc hunt test club, no trophies other than ribbons/bands as of right now.) Travis

We don't do trophies (Hunt Tests only). We do give a BIG title ribbon when a dog earns their title at our test - I think it costs ~$3.50.

Judges: we generally spend between $50 and $70 on our gifts. We also give some cash to pay for gas and other misc expenses en route. Usually also a certificate for a free entry at a future event. And (of course), the motel room.

We have tried several variations of judges gifts:
Decoys from noted carvers $50- 75
Gift Certificates $50-75

Placing awards (1-4th)
Small carvings $15-20 (had to stop due to corwins stopped carving)
Dog food (offered by Purina they have stopped as well)

Ribbons are about $4.00 each. Judges are given .40 per mile, 1 or 2 nights motel if from way out of town. $40-$50 gift certificate, Friday night judges dinner, lunch and Saturday night dinner. This applies to in club and out of club judges. Judges need to be treated right.

When I was calling judges to check on requirements for their hotel etc. I asked if there was anything special our club might do to make the stay enjoyable. ...and one judge told me, "I'd like to have a couple of "dancin' girls." I said I didnt' know if we could do that, it was a pretty unusual request, but that I would check with the board.

Long story short, 2 hula girl bobbing figures appeared on the main table to greet each judge Friday night.

Our club does its best to please!
