The vacuum thread reminded me of a study I heard about on the news a while back. It was kind of just a blurb with out a whole lot of information. What is basically said was, that having two or more dogs in the house caused your kids to have a far less chance of having allergies.

What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone heard this?

I like the outcome since it justifies more puppies, you know, for the health of my new son, but I was skeptical because it seems that if there is an inherited component to the allergies, then allergy proned parents might not have an animal in the house in the first place.

No itching here regards.

My kids grew up surrounded by animals, reaching a peak of three dogs, four horses, and 17 cats (mostly in the barn). The kids are now grown. Neither has ever had any animal allergies, but both are agreed that their mom and I -- now living in our separate households with three dogs each -- are completely crazy when it comes to animals and that they will never make the same mistake. Go figure.

To make it worse, I'm allergic to dogs, cats, and horses, surviving only through the magic of modern chemistry.

its interesting how this poll is coming out so far with 62% having 4+ dogs.

And Jeff, those are certainly tough allergies to have for a guy with your hobbies. I had a pretty bad horse allergy, and it kept me from riding them more than I did. The riding wasn't so bad but the brushing and care and such was.

I read a study one time that if your children are born with animals in the house they are less likely to develop allergies AND asthma. I may have it somewhere....if I find it I'll post either the link or the statistics.

I developed "exercise" asthma around my freshman year of highschool and I had always been an athlete since I was little. And I developed seasonal allergies two years ago at the age of 20 completely out of the blue.

I would love to see that study if you find it. Thanks Kourtney
