That's the thing I've figured out with FTs - you are in good company whether you are out in the first or in till the 4th - it doesn't bother me to go home without a ribbon in a FT, guess its the nerd in me and I can logically justify that only a few will get one. Thin about it even in a 80 dog stake only 5% will get any points. Unlike some games, not everyone gets a ribbon just for showing up and warming the bench! 
Yeah, yeah there are times we all feel like we got screwed but there are also times I know someone else got screwed cause I had a little bit of luck on my side, but all in all it evens out in the end.
I also look at it this way, if I go out in the first, that gives me a few extra days to train vs. the other guy who makes it to the 4th - besides if I keep going out in the first maybe I should be out training vs. trialing or I need a new dog!
