Remember that thread, It pertained to EE of course

The answer is NO... you cannot enter after the close. The system will not allow it. Even if the secretary demands that we add an additional entry, we have to do it on our end, a user can not.
But it could happen - heres how.

If a FT/HT secretary recieves a properly filled out paper premium before 11:59:59 on the day of close, I think it is a valid entry. She would have to call up Shayne and tell him to entry the dog.

You cannot enter online after the close would be more accurate. Entries recieved by the FTS before the draw can be added to online entries.
Paul nailed it. An entry accepted by the club secretary, prior to the close, is a valid entry. ASSUMING IT WAS ACCEPTED BY THE SECRETARY. The secretary could return it to the sender or call them and let them know they have to enter via EE... but thats their call. If the secretary did accept it, we would add it online when the secretary sent it to us... even if that was a day after the close.

With new EE clubs, mix ups like this happen from time to time... the secretary faxes us the entry form in most cases.

Whats the point of this thread Gerard?

RTF's favorite sport -- sticking it to the Swishy one!

One thing to remember is the EE works for the clubs, not the other way around. Event secretaries still "drive the truck" so to speak as far as the AKC is concerned.
The best thing for the games since the invention of the mechanical bird-chuckers!

Thats VERY true. We never forget who we work for. However, we have explicit instructions from AKC concerning late entries.

If a secretary calls us and says their buddy forgot to enter, put em in... we cannot do it, per AKC. If they call us and say someone sent them an entry before the close, we can probably work with that.

The easiest way to avoid this problem is to state in the premium that EE is the only entity authorized to accept entries.

Yes that is correct Ted, but we all know that there are probably some cavemen out there that don't even own a computer and still write out their premiums long hand.

I know of one pro that goes to the public library to do entries.

And even with EE, the FTS is club office assigned to accept valid entries according to the Standard, and a properly filled out premium is still the offical AKC entry vehicle. Shayne even has to re-produce valid premiums.

More people have computers and use the internet than most realize. Of the small percentage of mailed entries we get, almost all of them are duplicates with a blank club name spot that gets filled in.

Ted's correct in that the FTS can certainly mandate that ALL entries be submitted directly to us.

In the instance that Gerard is almost certainly referring to, an entry form was given to the FTS the night of the close and the FTS accepted it. We posted it online once we received the info from the FTS.

I still don't see the point of this thread. Are you implying we did wrong, or the club did wrong, or the entrant did wrong, or just bored?

If you wanted to insure the EE is the sole repository of entries, in the premium, the club could mandate that all entries - online and paper - be sent to EE and EE only.

The Geico cavemen would simply need to MAIL their entries to EE.

I can't wait to hear about the first FTS that turns down an entry sent to them when EE is designated as the SOLE recipient of entries....... 8)

If you're the event secretary, there are certain responsibilities that come with the job. Remember the days not so long ago, before EE, and then just do the job. It's SO much easier now! :D

What's the big problem we're trying to avoid, anyway??

What are we trying to avoid?

Sandbagging, crooks, just to name two.

"I'm sorry, I didn't get your entry on time."
It'll never be mandated by the AKC. It'll always be a club option.

Seems like this sort of thing happens only rarely....and can apparently be almost predicted.....I think I'd avoid running an event where that happened.

But that's just me.....

Shayne have you confirmed that EE is daylight savings time compliant?

/paul
I was wondering about that too.

I see that there are Entry Express events closing after March 11 (when daylight savings begins), yet the time of the event close is in standard time, rather than daylight savings time.
