Well I thought I would ask, it would beat living in a hotel room for a week.

I am flying up to Anchorage on June 5th and going to run the June 8th trial, I do not fly out to the Nushagak River to guide for Kings until the 15th. Would any of you fine folks like to adopt me and my little 46 pound derby dog? We don't take up too much room, we have papers, references, and I can throw birds all you want in the midnight sun!!

Hello, did you see the pics from that training group...?

Funny guy! You just wish you had a hood ornament so nice!

Anyhow, my house a disaster that is overrun with treenagers and 4 dogs. Extremely loud at all hours. Especially in the summer. Probably not a good choice. I can forward this to a few members though...

You will have fun catching the big hogs on the Nushagak! What a blast! :D

Howard N trains year round
Those of us farther north generally train from April through Sept., but we can train almost 24 hours per day if we so choose
August 15th is the opening for grouse and ptarmigan. Sept. 1st is opening day for waterfowl and moose. For those of us who are hunters, not much training happens after Sept. 1st.

We train 12 months a year.

We'll get weathered out a weekend or two but we'll do something 52 weeks a year. Not all of it in good conditions. In the Anchorage area, we have wind blown hayfields that are blown free of snow most of the winter. Liquid water training goes on for about 4 months. We extend the season with a vest in the beginning. If you are sensitive to cold you won't do much.

We can't get quality training all the time in the winter but we do what we can.

But Sherri, I heard when you didn't hunt, you mostly played with puppies?

That's true.... I love having puppies around. I do like training with the big dogs, but I am out of my comfort zone... I get very nervous training with some people.
Hopefully, I will be able to learn more from Steve this summer. It will be a struggle, but I'd like to train Twinkie this summer. I think I can do it.
She's quite the handful!

All it takes is to get up on the cranky side of the bed and go training with a 2 x 4 in your hands.

Waitaminute, that's how you train a Chessie.

What 2 x 4 Howard??? I've never used a 2x4 or 2x6 on my dogs & still have all 10 fingers & 10 toes (well, a couple of the toes don't work quite right, but they're attached). YOU train year 'round because you go to the Lower 48    We've trained at -30 here in the Interior & decided we were nuts BEFORE we started. It wasn't too bad & more to burn off excess dog energy.

Hope to see you & those black dogs this summer!

Hey Karen! Darla & I train every weekend with the group and 4-5 nights in the parking lots during the winter. So, Howard is right about the year round. It's just more fun when you get to go in the summer!

And what about those yellow dogs! I will see you soon..... :D

Hi Karen, My personal record is training when it was -23. Anytime it's lower than about -5 the whistle hurts my mouth. I'd cut it off at 0 if I could but then I'd get little done some weeks. I usually cut it off at -10 and that hurts my lips every time I use the whistle.

I spent 14 oe 15 years training weekends and nights in parking lots all winter long. Not great training but something.

Only gone outside for two winters now. Almost 3 months each time. Maybe next year it'll be 5 months. :D

Becoming a whuss in my old age regards,
