Anti fatigue mats from tractor supply. They hold up great. I cut them down so they're 3 squares long by 2 squares wide.

I've used other mats, rugs, carpets and none of them hold up well or stay put.

I bought a 3 ft x 3 ft. rubber mat with holes in it at Loews that can be hooked together with others to cover a large area. It's heavy enough to throw on grass and form a solid surface. I think it cost about $25 but well worth the expense. It ought to last for ever. It is big enough for both dog and handler.

I use a "mud flap" off a trailer that we changed the flaps on. It is a medium heavy "corded" rubber flap that, while small, makes a good mat.
Smaller is better than bigger. At least when it comes to a line mat..... :D

I use a piece of Dri-Dek. The little feet all over the bottom of it hold it into the ground so it doesn't move around. It also has traction so its not slippery when its wet.

Makes great liners for holes on the truck, too.

OK Angie, what is a good size for a mat? My dog is an 80 lb. lab.

Thanks.

What I and Ken Archer have already posted. A heavy rubber anti-fatigue mat that you can get from lowes and Tractor supply. But make it smaller. Cut it so you have 3 squares across and 2 squares up and down. Dog stays in the middle of the mat and you stand on the left or right third.

They don't move, don't squish into the mud and are easy to clean.
