Whomever is having a sale at the time you need it. May I ask why you are testing a whole litter? Carrier status does not affect health or performance.

Meredith
I have had several potential puppy buyers decline my litter because some of the pups could be EIC carriers when they asked if I was going to test the pups. And I have had people tell me they preferred to have an EIC carrier.... People are weird with their viewpoints on 'carrier' status....

Excuse my ignorance, but why would someone want a carrier? Is there some kind of incomplete dominance going on there?

EIC status can impact price or other factors in puppy sales.

EIC status has been known to influence (sometimes in unpredictable ways) buyer choices on what pup they choose to purchase.

I have no problem with carriers, I to sometimes suspect they can be the better dog but have no proof of that. It's not just marking but the overall disposition and attitude of the dog. If I were breeding I would not want that to be a factor just because of how people feel about it. So it is not the fact that some pups are carriers but the fact that people have a problem with it. I would take a carrier from a breeding I like in a heart beat. Two out of 3 of my dogs are carriers and I would not change that even if I could

GenSol is the cheapest and fastest I have done recently; turn around time was 48hr last time I sent in Dog DNA Testing | GenSol Diagnostics

As for the Carrier debate; whelp prehaps there's a reason EIC was found in field labs and a reason that once discovered the gene was in practically every high performance pedigree at the time; so much so that we were producing EIC affected dogs with regualrity. Back when EIC clear was hard to find. As for testing litters I don't or I didn't until there was a particular reason, namely I had a close friend with an EIC carrier male I wanted a puppy out of and thus needed a clear pup. Other than that is it a breeders job to provide puppy buyers with breeding stock? or just healthy puppies with potential?

I just recently used VetGen with good success with a pretty quick turn around. They offer a $5 per test discount if you test more than 7 dogs at a time. A single EIC test runs $55. You also can just go to your local Walmart or Walgreens and buy the GUM medium tooth picks (pack of 10) so you don't have to wait for any special test kit. You just swab the inside of your dog's check with each brush for a few seconds put the lid on (2 samples per dog) and mail them to VetGen.

Pawprints always seems to run specials. Great customer service, can also transfer the dogs account/dna to the puppy buyer, should they want to order additional DNA testing Pawprints is also a CHIC approved lab.

Surprised it is even an issue, especially when the dog has to clear so many other hurdles before being considered for breeding. But people can be odd!

Meredith
While true, if someone does want to potentially breed their dog, if all the other boxes get checked, it is a positive to not have to limit your stud choices.
