And preferably one that won't be shot down!

Our Board elections are April 3rd. There are two on the board running for
re-election who voiced the opinion that forming a committee to revise our
dog ordinance is a waste of time because we already HAVE a fine ordinance.
Um... no, we don't. And we DO actually have two other people running
against them, which is amazing in a town this size.

I'm trying to figure out a way to do a flyer that will A) get LOCAL people
to contact town hall about MY current situation, and B) get local people to VOTE THE BUMS OUT!

I've been putzing with it, but I stink at it.

Is there anyone talented in this area who would be willing to help?

Thank you,

It's tough to fight city hall.We had (still have) the city of Elgin rolling over us annexing everything in sight for large subdivisions. Our problem is we can't vote in the city but they can still build anything anywhere they want.We found those flyers very helpful stirring up the pot.The city council meetings were normally small. At first my wife and I alone stuffed flyers around. The first meeting swelled to over a hundred people. The city hated it.Then it grew into a group and we eventually had flyer people in charge of most of the areas around us.We could just get stacks of flyers out to the people covering different areas fast as Elgin changed meeting dates etc. They still do what they want but we made changes and slowed the process. It got the newspapers involved and alot more people aware of alot of Elgins' plans. The best part was that instead of just everything being rubberstamped by a few people with no one watching at least they knew they were being watched. They hate that.It was fun being a thorn in thier side for awhile.I hope you can stir it up enough to keep your dogs.Good luck.

Eleanor, contact the Dog Federation of Wisconsin. http://www.dfow.org/paws.htm They came down and helped us fight our impending ordinance. The board would not let them speak but they helped me organize my speech in front of the board. Not only was the proposed NEW ordinance pared way down but the town chairman was voted out next election-the one that tried to cut my speech off and said they heard enough. The lady that was in our favor was elected! This ordinance was to limit each household, we are in the country for petes sake, to 2 pets and restricted any fostering. They ended up making a new category for people called Animal fancier which means "any person who keeps, harbors, raises or possesses more than three cats over the age of five months; or any person who keeps, harbors, raises or possesses more than three dogs over the age of five months; and obtains a permit for housing such animals."

Hi Nancy,

Was this at all recently? The information I got about DFW is that the anti-PAWS fight pretty much wiped them out. I sent them an application and a check months ago, and they never responded or even cashed the check. (I don't think I've done anything to them to tick them off! LOL)

The most recent thing on their website is from Oct. '05

It's a shame. They did an awesome job and are needed now as much as ever. If you've got different information, I'd love to hear it!
