Okay, I am trying to put some words to this song to make it sorta more doggy  and got stuck. Any suggestions on the 3rd and 4th line? (Yea, I know, what I have is a little weak but I had to take what came and thats all that came! If you have some better wording for the rest of the song, please post it.

To the tune of "Shall We Gather at the River"

1Shall we gather at the River,
2where the group of handlers meet.
3
4

Chorus: Yes, we'll gather at the river!
The greatest place to run champ' dogs
Yes, we'll gather at the River
and see who's the next FC.

Thanks!

is that the same as "Oh My Darling Clementine"?
if so this will work. If not, your screwed.
Also not to fond of your chorus, think I'll change it.
Kind of an evolving chorus where every time,
the second line changes slightly.

So.... to the tune of "Oh My Darling Clementine"

From the Tradesman to the Surgeon,
we all have barn boots on our feet.

Yes we gather at the river,
because we think our dogs are good
But the winner of the trial
is not the dog that I thought should.

Oh the judges came from afar
just to look at our dogs run
If I make it through the land marks
I may start to have some fun.

Yes we gather at the river,
because we think our dogs are fine
But the winner of the trial
Took a slightly better line.

Well I'm sitting in the bushes.
It's my turn to plant the blind
They're all chatting in the gallery
I'm sure they can all see fine.

Yes we gather at the river.
because we think are dogs are swell
Then when our ass is handed to us
we just shrug and say ....... "Oh Well" 8)

Shall we gather at the river
on the grass that is wet with dew

The weather is slightly damp and cold
but that doesn't matter to me and you

Yes, we'll gather at the river
before the field trial has begun.

Everybody is ready for the day
Its gonna be fun.
Work needs to be done.

Yes we'll gather at the field trial at the start of the day.
God bless this day, its contestants, their families, and the dogs that run it, Amen.

I really like this one! I don't know about the clementine thing, if you want to find the tune to Shall we gather at the river, do a google search.
Also, on the second to the last line, is there any way that we could change the wording a little bit to keep the song "clean?" This tune is a christian song......

hmm, I really like the wording but I don't think it goes along with the "River" song tune. It could be arranged to work........

Thank You Abby,
I did the search, as near as I can tell Shall we gather at the river and Oh my darling Clementine have the same tune. I guess you could change ass to butt :? , but I thought I also was a Christian. Roman Catholics are the original Christians aren't they? 8) I did spend many a year going to Mass. And on top of that my Fathers second wife was a Jehovah's Whiteness.
She is not any more, nether a Whiteness or married to my Dad. But anyway. As I recall Ass is mentioned a few times in the bible. Both in the old and new testament. The weapon of choice in the Cain vs. Able incident and the ride into town Jesus chose on palm Sunday both were from an Ass.
Ass does not necessarily imply dirty. I prefer my Ass clean. This must be how the artist feel when the radio executives tell them to changing lyrics to get radio play. Do with it what you will. I am changing nothing.

I guess we could get into quite a discussion on this one  I will just say that there is a difference between the ass they are talking about in the Bible and the form of "ass" mentioned here.

Okay, after some discussion with my dad, we have decided on this one. Thanks to Ken for the words minus the last two lines

We went from writing a song about a river to deciding where the origin of "ass" came from.

Say no more...............just chalk it up to dog people.
