Hey Chris,

Can we make a change to the classified ads?

Rather than posting a new ad every 90 days, why not every 60 days?

That way on puppies (which is the most used ad board) we can post the ad when we do the breeding, once the pups are born and then any pups left at 8 weeks or so.

Also, it should keep the litter ads to two pages instead of 3 or 4.

Can we do it?

Thanks

If posters would edit their ad's subject line or notify us when the litters are sold, the classifieds for Lab pups could be only 2-3 pages also. I would venture to say that the majority of posters do not. :( It was only after contacting many of them via phone, email & PMs that the current forum was brought down to the smaller number of pages.

This is possible, but I honestly question if it will "improve" anything. Today, with a 90 day prune, the lab pups classifieds is only two pages. I'd venture to guess that some of those are no longer valid.

I had someone commenting recently similar to yours Lee, wanting a 60 day prune and repost setup. His concern was that by 90 days, his puppies are already sold. 8) And the problem is? 8)

The reason we are with the current setup was that previously way too many folks were jockeying to have their litter on the top of page one by bumping. They got pretty "creative" to get it there.

I believe that with a 60 day prune and post policy, we may see the ads zooming down page one a bit quicker than we do today, and I don't know that it will really help sales of pups much for anyone.

I think the key to using RTF classifieds is for advertisers to regularly update their ad and show the date in their ad upon which they made the update...this gives prospective buyers the current scoop.

We can certainly consider a 60 day prune and repost on lab pups....but regardless, the classifieds would be much, much better if advertisers would update and keep their ads current regardless of whether it is on page one or page two. (Just go to your ad, click the "edit" button, enter the new text and click "submit")

Well I understand keeping the ads up to date and all....I'm just thinking that the timing part would be much simpler.

If you post when you have the litter, by 8 weeks the litter is gone, those that don't update will automatically be pruned and their ad will disappear.

Same for if you do the breeding and then you get no pups.

ads

I agree with the argument of letting them be changed after 2 months. I had someone back out on a pup and could not repost due to the current restrictions, So I went to entryexpress reposted there and sold the pup.

I don't understand Scott.

Why could you not edit your ad? You can "change" or edit your ad daily if you want. There is no restriction around editing of ads.

The issue is that some folks want to put their ad back at the top of page one after 60 days rather than 90 days. (and there are only two pages of ads right now!)

I am quite confident that if users updated their ads, regardless of where they are located on the page, they would see improved response over having it look like there's an 89 day old ad just sitting there..... You can insert images of puppies, update on genders, colors, etc. available....

My concern on the 60 day prune and repost is that those of you who want to bump your ads when they get onto page two, will wind up being bummed when your brand new ad runs down off of page one from folks recycling their ads after 60 days.

Were you unable to edit your ad? Registered users should all be able to edit, as well as delete their own ads at any time. If you are not able to, please let me know so we can get it fixed.

if its every 2 months you can post before they are born then again once they are born and you have you count then again when they are 8 weeks old if you still have some left.
FH,

Please help me understand why you cannot accomplish this with an ad that's on page two that you can update and edit as frequently as you want.

Chris,

The other day I was searching the equipment classifieds trying to locate some specific old ads to determine the typical asking price for several different pieces of training equipment.

I didn't have much luck and wondered, are the ads archived, or are they trashed after a set period of time?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

I pruned the equipment classifieds at 90 days not too long ago. I'm sorry, there was no backup or archive done for expired classifieds.

I think a decent manner to get "market price" for used equipment may be eBay....at least that's what my wife does for kid toys, clothes, etc.

Chris...

Good thought re eBay... Unfortunately no dice on maxwell retiring gunnners, max blasters, zinger wingers, etc.

Thanks for the info,

Chris after reading all your post I agree with you about if it is every 60 days you will probably move to page 2 quicker.I guess if more people erased there adds after selling all the pups or editing would be fine.I bet you could call about alot of the adds that are on here and bet there are quite a few that have all be sold.

I really think that those of you wanting 60 days, reach this preference after you've had an older ad and it is a temporary feeling. I think you will be bummed and miss the 90 day arrangement when you post a new litter.

Nonetheless, I've added a poll and would appreciate your honest responses...I'd like to see what the majority thinks.

Chris
