Hi all, first post, I am currently CC using the Fowl Dawgs program and my dog is returning on the here command but is very slow (basically walks back to me). I would like him to return hard. In the fowl dawgs program the nick is used but I was wondering if there is any chance for confusion or potential problems is I switch to continuous using the Smartworks method to here. Or perhaps will this firm up later on in more advanced training. I know that I should follow one program and stick to it but this one aspect really bothers me.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Have you actually begun this procedure, or are you just in planning for it? Are you intending to mix programs?

I've began CC. I've done CC to sit and have just finished off the CC to here and I am currently mixing up CC to sit and here but I don't like the walk back or slow jog back on here. I would like him to come back hard when called. I really don't want to mix programs cause I've read this can cause problems in the future but this is really an issue for me (maybe not the dog but for me).

How old is your dog? Would you come running back to your owner if every time you did you got shocked? How does the dog know he should be coming fast to you? My advice is to remove the collar, and call the dog to you when he is 20 feet away. When he looks toward you, run the other way. MAKE IT FUN!!! Give him treats to reward him. I do competitive obedience and hunt tests and I learn dog training from both venues. I'm a Phase 3 dog trainer.

I appreciate the reply however I am still looking for some guidance on my specific situation regarding the use of a proven and tested e-collar program.

I followed Mike Lardy's collar conditioning video. In the video, Mike has a similar problem during "here" with one of the dogs he was using to show the process. His solution was to back off on the collar and use a dummy to get the dog excited about coming to him.

Thanks,
Kendall

[email protected]&$ Trevor. Get a life. What's your problem other than a tiny Johnson and road rage? You just can't live without rtf? I am sure you can find another place to take your nonsense.

okay, I couldn't resist, would you please explain what a 3 phase trainer is?

it is from the Farmer DVD
from the back porch interview segment. He is talking about the 3 phases of a dog trainer.
I cannot remember it word for word and I and others are unable to find the public link to that segment of the video that used to be on the internets,
BUT.... the joist of it is.-
Phase one, you are brand new. You are open and receptive to learning. You can listen to and take advice from any and all.
Phase two, you know some stuff. You have had a good dog or two and done well. You know your training program and your next step. You stop taking advice from any and all.
Phase three, you realize you do not know it all. Your mind opens. You start to learn again.
These are not exact quotes, but from memory. He goes on to say how much he likes to run dogs against phase two folk and how some folk stay in phase two for the rest of their life.

Big John, Your question leads to a lot of unanswered information. How old is your dog? How long has your dog been in training? Was it a hard chrger before you started this program?
The dog is trying to please you and understand what you are wanting him to do at the same time. Many of the best dogs on the circuit are dogs that walk back. If you want to try to imporve your dogs enthusiam; put the shock collar in your pocket and use it for descipline not motivation.A earlier member made a good statement about being shocked for going to get the bumper for you, they were right, you are on the edge of causing your dog to shut down then you have got more issues than it walking back to you. I suggest you get the dog to do what you want the right way first then you create enthusiasm by kneeling down when your dog returns and clap your hands and add a lot of praise until the dog improves its speed retuning to you.
I think you will begin to see results very soon. Good luck!!!!!!!!
