I am an amateur trying to source live birds. I can't keep birds at my place for long, so I need to be able to buy and use birds right away.

I haven't found a good source for pigeons. I have found a source for ducks and pheasant, but it is quite a drive and the birds are pretty costly. But I have found that getting live chickens is pretty easy. Old layers are easy to find, and the cost of a live chicken is quite low.

However, I have never seen anything about using these birds for training. I know they can't fly like a wild game bird, but niether can alot of pen raised wild game birds.

So what are the drawbacks? Is the scent wrong? Is a live chicken dangerous to a dog? More dangerous than a pheasant rooster?

Any input is appreciated.

My sister raised chickens and I threw some big white ones. They didn't last a day. Too fragile.

If you can find some guineas those are a riot! They take off like a rocket! Looks like the space shuttle taking off. But you better have a moose to toss them after you shoot them. They are huge!
