So I saw a web yesterday that looked like it might belong to a black widow. Sho nuf, tonight I went out with the flashlight and there she was. Well, she was kind of hanging out there in space without a good solid background to smash her with. I also saw another web and checked it out and there was another one. I couldn't figure out how to squish either one, then it came to me. Armed with just the red ryder, a flashlight, adidas sandals, shorts, and wifebeater I kissed the wife and headed out the door. I found that if the light hits them and then you bump the web, they disappear quickly. I had to have bait so I headed to the front porch light to find some flying critter to throw into the web. It worked, as soon as the bug hit the web, she was out of the hole and into the open. A couple of quick shots and one down. As I turned to go after number 2, I saw yet another web!
So far its Chiro 3, spiders 0

Seriously folks, three black widows in the last 20 minutes and I haven't really looked very hard. I'm a bit concerned that I might need to spray.

In all my life, I have never come across as many black widows as I did when I lived in Oklahoma. Actually, last year I saw the first black widow (in Texas) since I left Oklahoma in like 1992. They are pretty common in Oklahoma (at least where I lived) Start spraying, I am more afraid of a black widow than I am a cobra, but I use to keep them as pets.

The spray from the red ryder seemed to take them out very quickly.

I've been bitten several times over the years with no real terrible effects...pretty good sized welt, a little nauseated...the doc says I must be one of the lucky ones that has some sort of immunity, or maybe the nasty little bitches didn't give me a good dose. Whatever, I hate 'em. I don't see them often out here, but I like the aerosol can and Bic lighter approach...the thought of that sizzle gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Forget about black widows...... you need to watch out for brown recluse spiders. They enjoy hanging out in your house and have a special fondness for getting inside of clothing.

I got bit on the upper leg last fall. What started as a small itch turned into severe pain and suffering within 24 hours.

I went to the Dr. right away who promptly misdiagnosed it. 2 days later I got the right treatment. Still took weeks to fully recover...... And I was lucky!!!

Oh, we've got plenty of those as well and they are inside the house, garage, storage building, office, etc. We see those all the time. :(

I hate spiders!

They make this 6'2" 250 pounder scream like a 12 year old girl, just ask my wife.
I'm only 6' and 205...a Vietnam-era Green Beret...but spiders turn me into a little girl, too. There. I admitted it. There IS something that gives me the major league creeps. "Get over it?" Not if I can kill it.
