Chris Edwin Darby, 50, of Goose Creek passed away on April 27, 2012 as the result of an automobile accident.
Chris was a wonderful husband, father, friend, and mentor who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Chris was born on March 6, 1962, the son of Edwin S. and Ramona Carolyn Taylor Darby. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and later moved to South Carolina where his manufacturing engineering career led him to Cummins where he was employed for the last 22 years.
Chris was an avid outdoorsman and shared this love with his family. He was a well respected retriever trainer and served as the Region 4 Representative for the Hunting Retriever Club, and was co-founder of the Charleston Retriever Club. He was also involved with and served as a judge for many hunting retriever clubs throughout the southeast, including the honor of judging at The Grand.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Riley Darby, son, Chad Foster Darby, daughter, Kelsey Stevens Darby, parents, Edwin and Ramona Darby of Tulsa, OK, two sisters, Charissa Lynn Phipps and husband Dr. Douglas of Lander, WY, and Michele Diane Beard and husband Dennis of Fairland, OK. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel, 869 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
