I have been looking through the rule book and am unable to find the answers to the questions below.

How many dogs must be entered in a derby stake for a dog to receive points?

How many dogs must be entered in a qualifying stake for a dog to be considered QAA if he places first or second?

I know that for AA stakes there must be 12 dogs entered to acquire championship points, but does the 12 dog rule apply for the derby and qualifying stake for points and qualification?

Thanks in advance...

The AKC sets no minimum number of entries for either minor stake. Could be one for all they care.

The "minimum" of 10 STARTERS (not just entries) is set by RFTN for the purpose of awarding their annual Derby dog Championship.

There must be at least 12 ELIGIBLE STARTERS in the stake for the championship points to be awarded in the AA stake. See page 24 of the current AKC RFT rules for details.

In a regular, everyday, garden-variety Open AA stake as well as in a Limited AA stake, there must be a MINIMUM of 12 STARTERS that are over the age of 6 months and have become QAA in their lives.

In a Special AA stake, there must be at least 12 starters that have become QAA in that year or the previous year.

In a RESTRICTED AA stake, there must be at least 12 starters that have PLACED in an Open or Amateur AA stake, or any of the several AA stake variations.

The only entry restrictions applying to the Amateur AA stake are with regard to ownership and age. For AA points to be awarded, there must be at least 12 QAA STARTERS.

For championship points to be awarded there must be a minimum of 12 QAA starters in ANY AA stake. These starters must also meet the entry requirements regarding age, registration, good standing with AKC, amateur handler or O/H if applicable and the time frame requirements of a special or championship points requirement of a restricted.
