I'm looking for a dog crate to ride in the back of my Suburban. Ideally I'd like one of the ones with a slanted front so it can sit closer to the rear door. However, I can only find one manufacturer for that type and they are quite proud of their product.

Thanks,
DH

I use 2 plastic Pet Porters, in the large size in my '03 Suburban. Vision is very limited thru the rear view mirror, so you have to get used to using the side mirrors quickly.

Don't get the Pet Porters that you have to squeeze to open and close. They are a pain in the ass, and your fingers keep slipping off. Mine have rotary dials, and are very easy to open and close.
They are light, and easy to clean, and are airline approved!

If you are referring to the General Cage Slant Front cages - I just threw out 2 of them after 8 years of use which I purchased for my Tahoe years ago......for $ 126 - $ 147 a piece, they did not hold up like my Central Metal crates have in my van and I had those for 8 years - they look brand new!

Central Metal has a discount on their products for the months of May/June:

(The galvanized pans are not included in the price listed for the crate - for some odd reason it is not listed either on the product listing.
I guess call them at 1-800-874-3647 for prices on the pans. Thinking they are around $ 25 per pan.)

Thanks for all the replies. I understand what you are saying about the dog being closer to the back, but the crate will be on top of a drawers system (by Kalispel, similar to the Truckvault) so that lifts it 10 inches above the base of the suburban, so only an impact by a pretty big truck would be level with the dog. Still something to think about.

For those who provided info on slant front crates, thank you. The only one I'd been able to find is made by Truckvault and they want $750 for it, that seems a bit much for a wire cage.

For those of you who have metal crates like slide ins, do you have ventilation issues in the summer? The main reason i'm interested in a wire crate is air circulation.

Thanks,
DH

crates

we live in AZ and it gets hot. I have a camper shell and use Midwest black wire cages I think my dogs would die inan enclosed cage like a pet porter. I want the air circulation. Midwest makes slant backs and so does general and kennelaire.
