I have been using dokken teal trainers and a few plain bumpers with wings attached to them with my pup who is now 17 weeks old. Besides the obvious cost factor, is there anything negative about using these type of bumpers vs plastic or canvas bumpers. My pup does not seem to enjoy(makes sense to me) as much retireving conventional type bumpers as he does the dokkens.

You hit it with the cost,. I would just buy the standard bumpers. The money you save now can be put towards the purchase of live birds which you will need plenty of. One of the big problems I see with the dokkens or any of the rubber ducks is at a young aga we want to get the dog used to being around decoys and to not pick them up,to work around and through them. when you use the rubber ducks you could have your pup picking up decoys, which will get you dropped in a test/trial.I would get the pup through basics, and if you want to use dokkens then introduce them after FF (if you plan to FF).
