GDG means Gobbledygook, also known as off topic discussions, defined as anything that doesn't have to do with retrievers.

It is also, in all likelihood, the best way that members of online communities can get to know each other better by expanding the sphere of topics. And knowing each other better in turn improves communication and understanding.
